Scootworks' New Building

Scootworks is now complete with the move into this 25k sq ft facility on 112N Church St in Zebulon NC. This is a poor photo taken with a telephone... Lots of work is still underway, and one never knows just how much stuff there is until one moves it :-) . Shipping and Receiving are getting caught up, whihttp://www.blogger.com/img/blank.gifle other parts of the facility are still under construction in other areas of the building. Open house date to be posted soon. Keep an eye on the Scootworks Website for more info!
You can see more pics of the facility startup

Scootworks' New Location!

The move to the new Scootworks Location at 112 North Church Street, Zebulon NC is completed. We chose the slowest time of year to make the move, started on upfit & renovation in November, and have now started coming on line. Internet/Phone sales, shipping, and manufacturing will back fully operational on Feb 1 and coming up to speed. The retail store, service, and custom paint are not yet up and running, and we'll announce this as they are completed in the next few days. We don't have the time to accept visitors, but stay tuned for pics, info, the date of our open house, and other cool things to come from http://www.scootworks.com!

Sunday Clearance Deal Uploads!

While in the shop this morning, doing a bit more cleaning/reorganizing in the warehouse, we pulled another small load of "1 piece left", "discontinued", and "closeout items" together and put them on the site. I thought the last batch was it, but there's a lot of hiding places in these buildings. You'll find universal fitment stuff for most all bikes, and some more brand-specific stuff. As with most of the other items, this stuff is marked down way below cost to get it out the door before year's end.
You can find these items by going to www.scootworks.com and click on the [Specials] logo in the middle of the front page. Don't forget to use the promo code word of SANTA at checkout, to save even more.
Looking for a gift for someone with a bike, but don't know what they _really_ want? A Scootworks Gift Certificate will fill the bill. You can buy them in our online store. Ignore the shipping cost for them, our shopping cart isn't smart enough to deal with the cost of an envelope, but we'll remove it on our end from your charge and send it to you for the cost of a postage stamp. Get them at http://www.scootworks.com/partsgifts.htm
We also have several odd-size tires that we're going to push out, but we haven't had a chance to inventory them, yet.
Merry Christmas!

Scootworks' 3rd load of clearance items...

We've been cleaning out the warehouse of items that have been around far too long, items that have been discontinued and left us with only one or two pieces, closeouts, slow movers, etc. A lot of these items have been flying out of here, but there are still about 165 or so items, maybe a little more. We broke the list up into clothing & acc, misc, Fits-All-Bikes (non-bike specific stuff), and bike specific stuff by brands to make it a little easier to navigate. Since we've marked the stuff down to give-away and serious loss pricing, I didn't spend a lot of time with descriptions and fluff. We'd like to push this stuff out the door so as to not pay inventory taxes on it _again_, as some of this stuff has been on the books 2-3 years! (talk about slow movers, heheheh). There's also a few scratch-n-dent items, but they're marked as such...otherwise, everything is "new" (but old) stock.
You can see this stuff by going to www.ScootWorks.com and click the big [Specials] logo right in the middle of the page. Pop over and see if there's anything you're interested in. Also, you can get a little more off of the final price by using the promo word SURPRISE in the shopping cart during check out, and click "recalculate". We're only passing this promo word out to our email list at this time (there are over 42,000 of you on here!), and not posting it elsewhere, to give you a little something extra for being our friends.
Poke around on that page and see if there's anything you want at a steal. Happy Shopping!

Jack Daniel's Tribute bike finished!

Wow, this project has been SO much fun, it almost couldn't be called "work". I've just returned from a nice long ride on her today, and it is a joy to cruise on. LOADS of power (very lightweight bike, lots of aluminum parts), turns heads everywhere I cruise though, and draws a crowd where ever I stop.

From 60mph, I can twist the throttle, count "1,2", and I'm over 100. It'll stick your butt into the saddle and hold it there. The engine is a bit high-strung, but runs very smoothly. 42 degrees of rake in the frame are trail-corrected by 6 more degrees in the trees, and she is easily driven with one hand. I can't say it enough...it's a complete joy to ride.

I've had 2 lower back surgeries, and assumed I couldn't ride this rigid framed monster, but I was very wrong. One rides this bike while leaning waayyyy forward, almost like a jockey rides a horse. The rear tire is running 20lbs of air, providing some shock absorbtion. My butt simply bobs up and down, not pushing any of the bumps from the road up my spine, and makes for an exhilarating ride while plastering a huge grin on my face. This is the most fun to ride of any bike I've ever thrown a leg over, and I'm also very surprised by that as well.

I uploaded a few pics taken from in front of the shop today, just after an afternoon's ride on the Jack Daniel's bike. Check them out at:

Well, now we're on to the ChicChopper and BathTub Jenny, you'll find those build slideshows on our project bike page at:

Jack Daniel's Tribute Bike rolling out...

The Jack Daniel's Dropseat Chopper, built around a 88" Kawasaki Vulcan V-Twin, is coming to a close and rolling out to it's first show on 9/17. Check out the build slide show in the [Project Bikes] section at www.ScootWorks.com or view it directly at:
http://www.scootworks.com/builddropseat15.htm
Click the "slideshow" link in red, located below the pic, and kick back to follow along on this crazy project bike.

We started with a Carolina Customs frame, cut almost everything away, and built our vision from there. Loads of hand fabricated one-off parts, custom fabricated electrical system, suicide kickstand, hand fabricated exhaust, stretched and widened tanks, internal wiring, hidden battery and electrics, stretched spine, L-O-W saddle height, remote cooling system, driveline braking (no brakes on wheels!), extended intake system with an inlet air pre-heater, etc. This 10-1/2' long monster offers quite a lot to take in, and is one heck of a fun bike to ride!
Check it out!

Scootworks SWR-30B Risers for Vaquero!

Scootworks manufactures A SPECIAL PhatRiser 1XVB for the Kawasaki VN1700 Vaquero motorcycles As a result of the tree angle & offset in the head of the PhatRiser 1XVB handlebar riser, these risers raise the bars 2" above that of the OEM Kawasaki mount, and pulls your grips back 2" closer to you. Works with original cables/hoses, but may require you to re-route the front brake hose to the RH side of the front chrome retainer on the upper tree (a VERY simple task, and instructions are included for this).
* CNC Machined in our facility from solid 6061-T6 billet bar stock for strength and unmatched quality.
* A direct bolt-on accessory that works with the original hoses/cables in most applications.
* Instructions included for easy rerouting of cables if needed.
* Designed, manufactured, and tested in our shops for perfect fit on every bike model.
* PhatRiser 1XVB is designed specifically for the new VN1700 Vaquero
SCOOTWORKS SWR-29 RISERS FOR HONDA PHANTOM 750

This custom designed riser package works perfectly with the built-in riser stems of your factory Phantom 750 bars. No need to replace handlebars to use risers and get more rise and pullback for your Phantom 750, simply install our kit on your bars for increased comfort. As a result of your top triple tree angle, this kit provides approximately 2" rise and an additional 1-7/8" of pullback for your factory bars. Easy to install, supplied with all hardware needed for installation, and have a matching satin black finish to blend properly with your bars.
* Beauitifully CNC manufactured in our shop in Zebulon NC USA
* Manufactured from the best Aircraft Aluminum

Scootworks Local Rider's News

We've been working on a new 2700 sq.ft. addition to Scootworks in Zebulon NC to allow for display & sales of some of our custom creations, and customer consignment sales. We've sold bikes right off our showroom floor for our customers and Scootworks from Maryland to Florida via the internet over the years, with very good success. Our website gets 20,000+ hits/day, so our products and bikes get a lot of exposure. Local customers have been asking for us to handle the sales of their bikes, but we never had the space to accommodate many at once, along with everything else we do. We've now added a spacious 2700 sq. ft. showroom for this very purpose! In addition to local exposure, bikes under our consignment will receive listings on our website, in our advertisements, and on our sites at Blogspot (2 blog sites), Facebook, Myspace, Twitter, and TwitPic. We can also list bikes for customers who are not local, that only want internet exposure. See more of this in our blog at http://scootworks.blogspot.com/2011/01/new-scootworks-motorcycle-sales.html .

Next, our service department is running shop rate specials of $45/hour, and typical tire change labor rates of $20/tire (except for a few models where major disassembly is required). Now's the time for those valve adjustments, tune-ups, tire changes, inspections, etc before the spring rush hits.

Lastly, get your bike's paint freshened up for the coming riding season. We're running a paint job special of $500 for any single color, non-candy/metallic paint job, and this includes disassembly and reassembly of bike and minor body work if needed. Candys, Metallics, and multi-color paint jobs are available at an additional cost. Check out some of our work in our project bike section at: http://www.scootworks.com/projectbikes.htm .
Call (919)269-0986 x2 and ask for Service Department or Paint Shop to get on schedule for some of these cost saving specials!

One of our guys on TV...
Donnie is a member of Lords of Loyalty, and is a very nice guy, all around. Some of you have riden with him, he had a Mean Streak for many years, as well as a Ducati sport bike, and many other bikes. However, these guys stick together tight. It was a funny episode, especially to see the look on Ronnie Shirley's face from Lizard Lick Towing when he tells Bobby "we've screwed up this time. We didn't repo a bike, we repo'd a motorcycle club".
Check it out. Donnie's club also has a website at http://www.lordsofloyaltymc.com . Do me a favor...if you come to Scootworks, don't knock on our door the way they did :-)

Scootworks News - New Items
******************************
First, thanks to all who voted for my son Brandon's VN800 project. He took first place in the "Best Bikes of the Triangle contest with his customized VN800A. He was thrilled, as it was his first build. You can see the write-up at:
http://www.96rockonline.com/article.asp?id=1857150
******************************
Chrome risers, triple trees, and other chrome items are back in stock, finally! Wow, after the past year of chrome shop after chrome shop going out of business (one who still has a load of our parts we can't get hold of!!), we finally have two shops that're turning out good stuff. We have all of our backordered chrome risers and triple trees shipped, and fresh products on the shelf. Here's a pic of a batch of chrome PhatRisers being checked in: http://twitpic.com/2qbv0z
We manufacture just over 700 products here at Scootworks...from tiny widgets like handlebar adapter studs and hollow threaded lighting adapters to large complex assemblies. As the economy began to turn around some a few months back, we found ourselves out of about 15 of our key products like certain lowering kits, belt drives etc. We've been running the machine shop around the clock for weeks, and are finally caught up on all products except Magna belt drives (shipping now), VN1500 Brake Pedals, and VN2000 rear pulleys. All other products are shipping now, and we appreciate your patience and support!
******************************
New Products:
- Retro Style risers ...we have a sample run we're testing in the market. You can see the retro-style outer surface on a pair of our Phlamed risers here: http://twitpic.com/27cdnt
- New mirror-polished VN900 rear overdrive pulleys. We now have loads of these completed, packaged, and ready for shipment. You can see them at: http://twitpic.com/2umnll
- Newest belt drive updates. As always, we're working to improve our products. We have now released out latest version of various belt drive components to market with the latest plating the reduces the friction co-efficient to that similar to Teflon, while bringing the hardness up to over 60R (about as heard as a file!). You can see on of these parts at: http://twitpic.com/2tp123
- The long awaited belt drive system for the Suzuki Bandit is finally out of field testing. You can see pics of it online at:
http://twitpic.com/2ssvrq and http://twitpic.com/2rihuh
******************************
Another bike finished... A Honda 750 chop project has been completed in the shop, and is on the road. You can see it here: http://twitpic.com/1xvwjs and a slideshow of the build is online in our Project Bike section at: http://www.scootworks.com/projectbikes.htm

The Call for Christmas Help was ANSWERED!
http://tinyurl.com/zeb1219
Dave; www.scootworks.com
Sunday, December 14, 2008
A call for Christmas help...
This is a call for help, if anyone can assist. This time of year, many folks think of Toys-For-Tots, Toy runs, fund raisers for children, help for underprivileged families, and other charities. We just learned of this situation over the last few days…
The Yarborough-O’Neal Home in Zebulon is an assisted living facility. It currently houses 39 elderly women & 18 elderly men. In many ways, these elderly people are just like children…unable to help themselves and have no one and/or no where to turn for assistance. The home gets almost all of their money in exchange for somewhere clean and warm to stay. Earlier in life, these people were professionals, farmers, veterans of foreign wars, have raised families, etc…these are people from all walks of life. Unfortunately, people are often put in (or end up in) homes and seemingly forgotten. Most all of them are cognizant of what is going on around them and very aware that they are left all alone during Christmas (and most other times). This is sad to see, and an all too common miserable existence. Many of these folks have little or no family, and lack even the very basic of items that we all take for granted in daily life…things like Anti-perspirant, handkerchiefs, socks, q-tips, soap, etc. These items are not furnished by the facility, and the individuals generally have so little money that they can’t help themselves with the basics.
Debbie’s father is in this home, we’re out there to visit almost every day, and try to help out where we can. We’ve repaired sunglasses, put batteries in clocks, labeled clothing, found lost items, talked to management about conditions, and even been called to cut a lock off of a cabinet where an elderly lady had accidentally locked her personal possessions in and then couldn’t find the key.
We were talking with the manager and learned, after a Christmas routine of many years, they won’t be able to prepare their annual Christmas dinner for these people this year. Due to budget cuts, personnel cutbacks, most of their suppliers’ donation budgets drying up, and a general lack of funding, they simply will not have the food for it. They usually get donations of a few extra hams and other items for this meal that these folks look forward to, but they have none this year.
Several of the folks at Scootworks are assembling packages and gifts for these people, and we plan to go and spend this coming Friday (12/19) afternoon (around 3pm) with them to celebrate Christmas and life as best as possible. The girls at the shop are preparing snacks and food for the folks at the home. We can’t do much, as 57 adults are a lot of people to provide for, and we’ve been hit as hard as everyone else in the current economy.
The items we’ve already bought for their gift bags are: nail files, tangerines, peppermint candy, butterscotch candy, hand sanitizer, toothbrushes, some toothpaste, deodorant, bath powder, chapstick, and hand lotion.
What I’m asking for is this:
- If any of you know someone in the food industry or grocery store business that might be able to do something to help with their Christmas meal, it would be much appreciated. We’ve made calls to folks we know, but aren’t making progress with donations.
- The men can use simple things like personal hygiene items (soap, shaving lotion, aftershave, q-tips, toothpaste), socks, handkerchiefs, hair combs, more hand cream, nail clippers, etc. Other items are more expensive and up to those donating.
- The women can use simple things like personal hygiene items (soap, perfume, q-tips, toothpaste), hair brushes, nail files & clippers, hair spray, shower caps, cotton balls, hand lotion, etc. Other items are more expensive and up to those donating.
We’d really like to help these elderly people to have a good Christmas. We’re not looking to have them get new TVs and fancy presents, but rather help them have a good Christmas meal and know that the world hasn’t forgotten and passed them by. I understand that everyone is in a bad way this year. Like many of you, we’ve cut way back on Christmas spending, travel, and unnecessary expenses. If you can help ANY at all, or know anyone who can, please email me at wb4iuy @ eastrc . org or call my cell at 919-795-2074. I surely hope none of us ever end up in this situation, maybe we’ll be able to provide for ourselves and have someone who loves and cares for us enough to make our later days pleasant.
Sincerely,Dave Hockaday

Scootworks new Sportbike Parts Store open!
Scootworks now has a new parts and accessories store for sportbikes / streetbikes. With our latest website updates, negotiations with the largest parts distributor in the US (with a warehouse local to us, too!), and store expansions...we've now added our complete Sportbike parts catalog to the site.
Go to http://www.scootworks.com/ , click on [Shop Online], and then select [Sportbike] from the black menu at the top of the page. You can also enter from the front of the site at http://www.scootworks.com/, and click on "Sportbike Store" in the middle of the main page. You'll find everything from bodywork and repair/maintenance parts, to custom wheels, wide tire kits, stretched swingarms, rearsets, and more.

Over 7 MILLION Parts now at Scootworks.com!!
If you visit our site you’ll find thousands of new items at great prices. Our new site addition is running pretty good, though we’re still working on lots of things like links to the correct categories, debugging our dual server setup, and such. We’ll be installing dropdown menus to most categories this weekend to hopefully make our menus less intimidating to shoppers. We suspect this will take a few days yet to have up and running as smoothly as we’d like, but we hope the savings we’re passing along will make it worth the aggravation of little quirks you might find along the way.
If you go there and shop around the site, be aware that there are dual shopping carts at this time. We’re working on an application to merge those automatically (and transparently) for the customer, but don’t worry. Just select whatever items you like, and when you’re ready to check out, read the bold red instructions in the cart…it’ll walk you though the simple process.
There are load of new deals in the works…we’re working on something with Helmet House right now, that should make for a sweet deal for deep discounts to our customers on all of their product lines as well. We’re building our in-house inventory even larger, for what we hope will be the best upcoming riding season ever!
Go to www.scootworks.com and click on [Shop Online] or the Warehouse Gateway image in the middle of the page and check it out. If you have any problems or questions during this debug phase, please drop me a note to support @ scootworks . com .

Scootworks OVERSTOCK/CLEARANCE SALE
The 7 pages of this list are now up on the site at www.scootworks.com . Click the [Scratch & Dent] button in the LH column of the main page to find them. This is a multi-page list in .pdf format of these items, as recently prepared by our general manager for inclusion in this sale. There are waayyy too many items to spend time on listing on a webpage, writing code and descriptions, etc. You'll find the quantity of these items we are going to sell at a discount, the part number a descrption, and price. The price in the [Unit Cost] column is the price we'll sell it for (ignor the Ext Cost column). We'll provide free shipping within the lower 48 US States on these items where the order is over $200, just like always.
The first 3 pages are mostly seats, seat covers, tank bibs, and fender bibs and are all (except Granucci seats that start with GR in the part number) from Mustang. The remaining 4 pages are Kuryakyn parts (4 digit part number) and Show Chrome parts (hyphenated part number like 52-133. All items are explained on our site in detail, in their normal sales areas. New Bushing for Scootworks Lowering Kit Users
We are now manufacturing double-tapered replacement bushings to include with all of the 500 lowering kits, in the event this happens to be the case with a customer's bike. If any of you have experienced this and need bushings, please contact me at support @ scootworks . com or call 919-269-0986 x32 and I'll have a set sent out to you. I don't get much time to get on the forums this time of year, so email or phone is the best way.
